Gorilla til Cyklecross..
Efter en ekstra lang uge, med hele 5 dages undervisning, var det en temmelig træt Thomas der gik en tiltrængt weekend i møde. Fredag stod primært på bikefit i laboratoriet med en super testtur i strålende solskin bagefter. Tjek lige Tarmac SL3 med 404 Zipp:
Efter endnu en veloverstået eksamen, tog ”Vi” (klassen og jeg) på restaurant og nød et godt måltid og en velfortjent øl. Kunne mærke på stemningen at folk havde haft en rigtig god uge og klassen var rystet godt sammen, så en øl blev hurtigt til to. Var egentlig planen at festen skulle fortsætte i San Jose, ca. 15 km nordpå, men efter et par øl, en lang uge og et cykelcrossløb tidligt lørdag morgen, valgte jeg at passe min seng. kl. 07.00 den efterfølgende morgen, satte jeg stor pris på jeg valgte som jeg havde gjort;0) Vejret viste sig endnu engang fra sin bedste side, så hentede Andrew og Wase(Andrew’s old buddy) kl 08.00, crosscyklerne blev smidt på SBCUvanen og kursen blev sat mod Watsonwill, ca. 30 min kørsel, vestlig retning nær kysten. Endnu en gang var jeg vidne til et kæmpe cykelarrangement, som denne gang bar præg af det også var dagen for Halloween. Skal lynhurtigt sige, at jeg ikke er nogen stor fan af Halloween, men det skal man ikke sige højt, for amerikanerne tager det dybt seriøst og bruger flere amerikanske dollars end jeg tør drømme om på fuldstændige sindssyge kostumer. 
Ruten var denne gang noget anderledes end sidst, kun en enkelt stigning, mange sving, en enkelt løbepassage og ellers pandekage-flad. Jeg stillede som sidste weekend op i B-feltet, som denne lørdag var ca. 100 mand stort. Fik en OK start bag de 25 forreste og kæmpede mig langsomt op gennem feltet. I modsætning til sidste weekend, følte jeg mig denne gang mere veloplagt og frisk, men da jeg passerede 3.pladsen var det ligesom om hullet op til 2.pladsen konstant forblev det samme. På sidst runde satte jeg alle kræfter ind, men kørte kun få sekunder ind på de to forankørende..Øv øv, havde nok lidt sat næsen op efter en podieplacering en tand højere. Skidt, havde et super godt løb, uden at være totalt færdig. Derfor var jeg også fast besluttet på at afprøve crossevnerne eller mangel på samme i A-feltet 4 timer senere. Imellem tiden brugte jeg tiden på at sole, slappe af, nyde stemningen og se kostume-løbet kl 12.00. Fuldstændigt ”gak gak” at køre cykelcross i fuldt armeret gorilla kostume i 26 graders varme, men skægt var det. Desværre gik forberedelserne op til A-løbet ret meget i vasken, da min pung forsvandt. Hvor lang tid den havde været væk, anede jeg ikke, men væk var den da jeg skulle have en kaffe. Shit!!!! Det nærmeste jeg kunne komme, var jeg have haft den da jeg blev registreret til B-race ca. 2 timer tidligere. Kunne jeg have været så dum at have kørt race med den i jersey-lommen – jeps, ingen problem. Derfor kørte jeg et par omgange på ruten, snakkede med officials og løbsspeakeren – ingen held.
Derfor var det med en vis bitterhed i sindet og ca. 200 dollars fattigere jeg rullede til start kl. 14.15.
30 sek…..10 sek… startede min nyindkøbte Edge 705 og fik en flyvende start som nr. ca. 30. (ca. 85 startere) OK, ingen tvivl om at niveauet var en tand højere og mine ben 60 min mere brugte en de fleste andre konkurrenter;0) Men hvad f…. det var jo selvforskyldt, så nu skulle benene have prygl de næste 60 min!
Langsomt øgede jeg tempoet, fandt en hvis form for rytme, som primært bestod af max-gas → semi-gas → max-gas osv. Efter 6 runder – 2 runder ”to go”, var jeg ved at eksplodere, varmen fik kroppen til at koge, støv i lungerne, benene manglede vand og sukker og tankerne om at sænke tempoet kom nærmere. Blev hentet af to ryttere som kørte forbi mig uden problemer. Havde ikke kræfterne til at sidde med. Skod! Fik en slurk vand idet jeg passerede mål og kørte ud på min anden sidste runde. Kæmpede en indre kamp, som alle cykelryttere sikkert har prøvet, når alt gør ondt, kroppen er færdig og lysten væk til at fortsætte. Nej, nej nej!! Det holder ikke, blev jeg ved med at sige til mig selv. Det er ca. 15 min i syrehelvede og du har det fantastisk bagefter – kom nu!! Trådte Tricross S-WORKS cyklen et gear op, og jagten på de to forankørende blev skudt i gang! Kørte langsomt, men sikkert lidt efter lidt ind på dem, ca. 500 m før mål, på den eneste stigning kunne jeg se der var opstået spurt-taktik mellem de to. Det var min chance for at få kontakt! Jeg pressede køllerne til det yderste, et gear op, mere fart på – og kørte helt ud i modsatte side, tæt op ad tilskuerne og hamrede forbi de taktikkere. Slog et hul på ca. 15 m inden sporet atter snoede sig ind til singletrack. En teknisk passage, to skarpe sving og to barrierer blev passeret med en puls på 100% og kørte 15.pladsen ind – ca. 2½ min efter vinderen. Hold op hvor var det fedt og hvor var jeg smadret. I skrivende stund – ca. 36 timer efter, gør ryggen stadig ondt, nakken og skuldrene er ømme, så kroppen er blevet mishandlet maksimalt;0)
Rullede tilbage til bilen, klædte om og gik en sidste gang op til indskrivningen for at høre om min pung var blevet indleveret…. nope! Ingen held! Bilen blev pakket, mens det langsomt gik op for mig at de næste to uger ville blive en hel del mere besværlige uden Visa/Master. Kl. var godt nok 16.00, men tastede alligevel fars mobilnummer ind, velvidende at det var midnat i Dk. Var nødt til at få mine kort spærret. Efter 100 meters kørsel og inden jeg havde trykket ring op – spurgte Andrew mig om det ikke var min pung der lå på køleren af bilen…hmmmm!!! Jo tak, et lille kryds i Ja!! Hvordan den var havnede der, må guderne vide.. Har sikkert i min ”forberedelses-brandert” lagt den der og totalt overset den i min eftersøgning. Skidt, jeg havde fået den tilbage og selvfølgelig var en kvajebajer på sin plads.
Efter et besøg på et lækkert fiskerestaurant-besøg, en køretur tilbage til Morgan Hill og et bad, stod den på Halloween-party hos en kollega fra Specialized. Var ikke super veloplagt til fest, da jeg var mere en normalt slidt, men må godt nok sige det var en uforglemmelig oplevelse. Voksne folk i de vildeste kostumer - som var det en fastelavnskonkurrence mellem 10årige børn troppede op en efter en. Kæmpe buffet, belgisk fadøl, junglejuice(nasty sprut-kombi), et helt hus viklet ind i spindelvæv, beklædt med dødningehoveder og edderkopper. Totalt amerikansk! Hehhehe, men en stensikker uforglemmelig oplevelse;0)
Næste uge står på Master BGfit med Dr. Andrew Pruitt fra Center for Sports Medicine – en af de mest respekterede ”bikefittere” i USA. Bliver super spændende og udfordrende!
